As part of their "reimagined" Standard Series, the HD-28 has seen some subtle but important changes for 2018. As a result the gap between this model and the more pricey HD-28V is far more narrow, as the vintage-inspired open back tuners, the delicate diamonds & squares fretboard inlay, and the lightly toned top finish have migrated and now grace the HD-28 as well. The sound of the HD-28 has also changed a bit thanks to the forward-shifted scalloped X bracing, another feature previously reserved for the Vintage Series models. If the open-back gears have you wondering if this HD-28 will tune as smoothly as earlier versons with more modern-looking tuners, have no fear as these Schaller Grandtune gears feature an 18-to-1 ratio and after a quick trial you may never long for sealed tuners again.
Other changes and upgrades to this latest version of the HD-28 include: Neck is 1 3/4" wide at the nut. Bridge pins are at the same angle (in the bridge) as the saddle. Celluloid faux tortoiseshell pickguard. Off-white (cream colored) body binding. Vintage-style C. F. Martin decal on headstock.
