At just over 15 3/4" wide, with rather deep sides, the F models are about as close to a Grand Auditorium size as George Lowden is going to get. Thankfully the very rounded upper and lower bouts give these guitars a look that's all their own, and they deliver a decidedly Lowden tone no matter what combination of woods you choose.
As with the larger Lowden O models, Gryphon has several different Lowden Fs, each with a different combination of tonewoods. This gives players a unique opportunity to compare what these woods combinations offer in real time. Reading about tonal characteristics is helpful, but the writer is of course transposing musical tone into words. Listening to the subtle differences is more helpful for most of us, and of course playing these different guitars yourself, in the same room, is the best test of all.
