Here's another example of Martin's Custom Shop combining vintage features and construction details with some contemporary touches that result in a powerful-sounding guitar that's ideally suited for today's player. In this case, bluegrass players are the intended target but anyone who appreciates that big powerful rosewood-and-Adirondack Dreadnought tone will find this guitar appealing.

What is it? Think "D-28 GE" with Guatemalan rosewood and a torrefied (VTS) Adirondack top, but with the larger soundhole, neck binding, and "Dalmatian" celluloid pickguard of a Clarence White model. The neck is 1 3/4" wide at the nut, but with less of the V shape than most of Martin's reissues of it's "Golden Era" models of the 1930s. The ebony bridge has a drop-in saddle, so if you ever need to add an under-the-saddle pickup that will be easy. Another plus is the lacquer finish has the "pumice rub" satin gloss, a nice touch for those of us who don't necessarily want that super-glossy look. Comes with the deluxe Custom Shop case. The "16" in the model code, btw, stands for "2016" as this Custom Shop model obviously has nothing in common with Style 16 Martin models.
