Jack Tuttle's Bluegrass Banjo Primer is a carefully developed lesson program for banjo students containing over 70 transcriptions, with songs arranged for graduated learning. With large, easy-to-read tablature, chord diagrams, back-up ideas, vamping patterns, moveable licks, vocal endings, double-tag endings, and 3/4 style playing ideas. Free online mp3s available.
The beginning lessons start with simple three-finger rolls combined with chords and melodies to play some standard bluegrass songs. Later, the hammer, slide, and pull-off licks associated with Earl Scruggs are introduced.
The collection includes transcribed solos from Earl Scruggs, Ralph Stanley, J.D. Crowe and other banjo greats, mixed in with Tuttle's arrangements of commonly played bluegrass jam pieces, all with an eye toward developing the correct stylistic elements essential to bluegrass banjo.
Spiral-bound softcover book, measuring 8.5x11 inches. 100 pages. Published by Back Studio Publications.
