The Eastman TG58/v comes stock with a Bigsby vibrato and TV Jones Classic pickups, a combination that just screams rockabilly. But the solid spruce top helps mellows out that twang a bit, and with the neck pickup activated, this guitar has an appealingly smooth jazz tone.
This guitar is part of Eastman’s Antique Varnish Series, a finishing technique that draws on techniques and materials from the violin world. According to Eastman, standard lacquers tend lay on top of the wood while the thin varnish sinks into it, which allows the top and back to breathe and vibrate more freely. The varnish also has a softer, warmer glow than lacquer and the underlying grain is more prominent to the touch.
