Think of a Tubaphone banjo tone ring, but made of wood instead of brass. Combine it with the 12-inch shell, with the bridge near the center, plus the wood tailpiece, and you have a very different banjo tone. "Mellow" doesn't cover it, because there's still lots of sparkle and definition. "Woody" is the only word we can think of, and the thin finish and unplated brass compliments Chuck Waldman's celebration of what lots of wood, in place of metal parts, does for a banjo.
