Gryphon doesn't often get carried away with celebrity guitars, but we have to admit that the Gibson Custom Shop really did a great job with this Eric Clapton 1964 Firebird I. From the accurate neck-thru-body laminations and Firebird pickguard to the Kluson tuners and mini-humbucker pickup, the folks in Nashville really nailed it. Another plus is the low weight of only 7 1/4 lbs, and the case is equally impressive. Go ahead, do a search, you'll find some huge prices on similar never-played examples from this limited run. So why is the one at Gryphon priced so reasonably? Only 9 of the 10 Clapton signature picks set were saved by the original owner! But he did save the COA and all the rest of the case candy including the hand-signed Clapton Firebird I control cavity plate. Alas, that missing pick will remain a mystery...
