Sometimes "LTD" doesn't mean much. A lot of Limited models have special inlays, or a different finish, but what you hear is pretty much the same as a standard model. That''s not the case with this 814ce LTD, which is made with cocobolo back and sides instead of the standard East Indian rosewood. Cocobolo is both harder and heavier than East Indian rosewood, and guitarmakers all agree that it sounds different (the general consensus is that cocobolo contributes to long sustain and clean, warm bass response). Cocobolo has never been available in huge quantities, and is not quite as easy to work with as Indian rosewood, so you don't see all that many guitars made with it. But you'll see high-end versions of both classical and steel string guitars made with cocobolo, and usually at a premium price. These cocobolo versions of the 814ce were expensive, and this one hasn't seen much use at all, so it's quite a bargain. The ES2 pickup system makes it highly versatile if you need to plug in. Case is equally clean, with all the Taylor papers that came with it when new.
