There's birdseye maple, and then there's LOTS AND LOTS OF BIRDEYES maple such as found on this barely-year-old Collings MF5. This is a great sounding F mandolin, and fortunately when you're playing it you can't see much of the maple and so don't get distracted by all those eyes. The previous owner is an old friend of ours, and his explanation for selling it makes as much, or more, sense than any other reason for parting with such a fine instrument. "I'd pull it out of the case, then would start looking at it and never get around to playing it," was his plea. We suggest a pair of ultra-dark sunglasses that stay clipped to the case handle, ones that allow just enough visibility to get the mandolin safely out of the case. But this really is a used instrument that appears new in every way.
