Martin sometimes does limited runs of Custom Shop models and while most are primarily tweakings of their Authentic and Golden Era models, this one from 2015 saw the design crew really stepping out to make an artful statement. Along with the obvious D-41 pearl bordering around the top and soundhole there's a definite theme going with figured mahogany binding on all edges of the body and neck, plus the same figured mahogany for the ribbon decoration on the headstock. The ribbon design is continued on the back, with the curly mahogany alternating with cocobolo. The tastefully delicate fretboard inlay continue the ribbon motifs. (Martin initially stated they would make 115 of this model, but it's not a numbered Ltd. Ed. so we don't know how many they actually completed or which number this one is in the production run).
Thanks to the torrefied spruce top (what Martin calls their "Vintage Tone System" or VTS), plus Golden Era top bracing and rosewood back and sides, the beauty of this Custom Shop creation is more than skin-deep. Sure you can enjoy looking at it, but you'll enjoy playing it as much or more as it has that classic Martin rosewood Dreadnought tone and lots of it.
Condition is near perfect, but there's a little bit of fret wear in first position as this has been played. Original Custom Shop case is equally clean but the handle has been replaced (those handles, while attractive and comfy, often come apart as they're not up to sustaining the weight of the big case with a guitar in it).
