Gryphon has been carrying the Collings D2H model for over 20 years, and they’ve become one of the standards of the classic American-made rosewood dreadnought. Although the top bracing is a scalloped X pattern, Collings aims for more balance between the bass and treble, so many players who have found rosewood D models by other makers to be lacking in brightness will be pleasantly surprised with the Collings D2H. While rosewood dreadnoughts are often thought of as primarily suited for bluegrass or backup, these have the “crunch and sparkle” that makes them far more versatile. The other difference that’s easy to notice is the superior fit and finish, a Collings trademark you’ll find in all their models.Gryphon usually carries several different versions of the D2H, including models with a slightly wider 1 3/4” wide neck at the nut, ones with a sunburst finish on the top, and D2HA versions which have an Adirondack spruce top. We also often stock other variants of the rosewood Collings dreadnought.
