The nicest Le Grande we've had in ages. This was a special order placed with the late Jim Hutchins, a Gibson veteran in the company's carved archtops dept. The order placed with Gibson's Custom Shop was not in order to get special appointments but to allow the first owner to pick out the wood and it's easy to see why this set of extra curly maple was chosen. This Le Grande is original end to end, and in mint condition with the exception of a few very light surface scratches and a slight dulling of the gold plating. We could easily buff this so it looked brand new, but have elected not to do that as it would affect the patina of the original nineteen year old lacquer finish (which has "settled" into the wood slightly, and that visual effect would be lost if we buffed it out). There is no lacquer checking, this is a San Francisco Bay Area guitar that's had excellent care. Frets have virtually no wear, neck is straight. Set-up as it was shipped, with a tune-a-matic saddle (this could easily be converted to a compensated ebony bridge top if you wanted to take full advantage of its acoustic tone). Original deep Gibson hardshell case with "Custom -Art - Historic" logo stenciled on the lid. Case key, Gibson "Customer Care Guide", and warranty booklets are in the accessories pocket of the case. Second label seen in the treble side f-hole is signed by Jim Hutchins and dated 10/22/2001.
