Call us sentimental but we still love these early Collings with sunbursts done by John Allison (who later went on to start his own small guitar company). This example is original throughout, and while it has been played the owner is(was) one of Gryphon's favorites, a guy who is super careful with everything so the fret wear is about the only sign of use. The pores in the East Indian rosewood show, as is typical of rosewood Collings models from this period. The finish has also settled a bit in the joint between the two halves of the book-matched spruce top, but this is NOT a sign of that glue joint failing and certainly not any sign of a top crack (these two finish details are only mentioned for the sack of clarity). The original TKL case with Collings badge is equally clean.
