The "SP" is for "Special Edition," and these were the first deluxe models of Martin's 16 Series (the first year or so they were given paper labels signed by Chris Martin, as in this one) . This example was sold to a long-time Gryphon pal when new a little over twenty years ago, and while it got played he certainly took excellent care of it (he's primarily a banjo player). No cracks, in fact not even any significant scratches, just some light finger scuffs to the pickguard. Twenty years-old Martins just don't get any cleaner, the gold on the tuners has almost zero tarnish! Nice slim neck, a very playable rosewood Martin 000 that doesn't cost a lot.
