A completely original Brazilian rosewood Schoenberg Soloist, with it's original hardshell case, and a special order left-handed version. In other words, not exactly a high-production guitar even by Schoenberg standards. This is from the Dana Bourgeois period, and we'll assume those who view this listing already know the story of the Schoenberg/Martin collaboration so won't go over it again here (if you need that info please call or write).
There are a number of cool things about this guitar, even beyond the fact that it was made with Brazilian rosewood. One is that the neck dimensions and string spacing are the same as Martin's original OM models circa 1930, rather than the standard 1 3/4" width commonly associated with any 000-size guitar called an OM (this neck is 1 13/16" at the nut). Another nice touch is that there isn't even the tiniest bit of plastic on the whole instrument, as all the rosette rings, binding, and purfling are wood (or wood fiber), and it doesn't have a pickguard. And unlike a lot of original lefty guitars, this one has never been converted to right-handed playing!
This Schoenberg did see quite a lot of use, enough that the frets needed to be replaced about two years ago. There are a few pick scratches and some small filled dings to the top, plus the obvious finger-wear beneath the high E string. There's weather-checking to the lacquer on the top, but none to the back, sides, or neck and no cracks to the wood. Interior center back strip has an ink stamp with the name of original purchaser, and the interior paper label was signed by both Dana Bourgeois and Eric Schoenberg. The original cloth-covered case is a very strong design that has both an arched bottom as well as an arched top.
