One of the nicest and cleanest Style 25K Martins Gryphon has had in decades, and also one of the earliest. Martin's return to using Hawaiian koa began in 1980 with serial numbers 4215XX, and this example is serial number 4225XX, so it was definitely from one of the early batches. Thanks to a recent neck reset and refret here at Gryphon it plays every bit as good as it looks and there are no cracks anywhere and only very very light surface wear to the lacquer. Other than the neck reset and refret there have been only two changes, one being this D-25K is now housed in a black Victoria hardshell case which is slightly older than the guitar and the other change is that the original tuners were replaced with gold Grover Rotomatics. (The original owner was particularly fond of gold tuners.) The original lacquer finish on this Martin has settled nicely into the wood, giving it a pleasing patina.
