Besides the amazing condition and originality, this L-4C has another pleasant surprise waiting for you in the case: A Johnny Smith-style pickup already fitted for mounting at the end of the fingerboard, with a stiff faux tortoiseshell pickguard and all the necessary hardware. Being from the early '60s, this has the iconic Gibson C/D profile neck that's consistent in depth up and down the fingerboard. This L-4C is original throughout with the exception of the pickguard, and the condition of the finish, the Kluson tuners, and the tailpiece is amazing (note the lack of fret wear). About the only changes to the finish are very minor little holes around the end of the fingerboard necessitated by mounting the Johnny Smith-style pickup. The case is original and almost as clean as the guitar, with the Gibson badge under the handle. A versatile Gibson archtop that would be great for acoustic swing band work, or with the floating pickup mounted would work equally well for contemporary jazz.
