One of the cleanest and most original early ES-335 models Gryphon has offered, this example straddles late 1960 and early 1961. The body has an R-prefix FON number, so it definitely got started in 1960, and the very low serial number (2443) pegs it to around March of 1961. Pickups have clear PAF stickers. The Kluson Deluxe tuners have replacement buttons (from Kluson) because the originals succumbed to celluloid deterioration and crumbled. The switch tip has been changed. The only other change is that the silvery "Vol" and "Tone" discs that were once lightly stuck to the tops of the knobs have come off. Frets have been milled but this 335 plays and sounds great, with a shoulder-saving weight of under 7 1/2 lbs. Original brown case shows it's age more than does the guitar with some worn edges and a replaced handle. A beautiful example of an iconic electric guitar from the prime period in Gibson history.
