We call these banjos "Bartophones" as we've sold several Vega Tubaphone models over the last 30 years with newer 5-string necks made by Bart Reiter. Bart makes about the cleanest Vega-style necks around, and of course the neck you see here is pretty much the same as he makes for his "Regent" model. We sold this banjo twenty years ago, and it's been living a local and well cared for life but is ready for its next assignment. Very clean condition, only a little fret wear. Original Vega hook & nut set, some rust on several of the nickel-plated steel hooks, reproduction No-Knot tailpiece, 4-to-1 Planetary tuners by Stew Mac. Bart stamped a serial number on the dowel stick that matches the number Vega had stamped on the inside rim of the shell 90 years ago. (Many of the Vega 4-string models that get converted to 5-string were originally plectrum models with an odd long scale length no contemporary players will tolerate). This example comes with an excellent TKL hardshell case, both case key and nut wrench are in the accessory pocket.
