A remarkably sound and original F-2 with Orville Gibson's preferred gleaming ebony finish on the top (of course Orville was no longer at Gibson when this mandolin was constructed). Original Handel inlaid tuners, original pickguard, bridge, and tailpiece. Frets are original with very little wear, and the finish is the original varnish and color but with some French polish "refreshing." There's a hairline crack to the top just to the left of the fingerboard extension, barely visible in photos 1 and 8 (typical for these carved-top models with oval soundhole). Even more difficult to detect is the repair to the smaller of the headstock scrolls, which had been broken. Despite the early date this F-2 has the good neck angle and more powerful tone normally associated with mid-to-late 'teens F models. Neck is very straight and playability is excellent. Comes in a contemorary deluxe TKL case.
