The Deering Sierra is the workhorse of the Deering line. It's a high grade bluegrass banjo without the glossy finish and additional binding to up the cost. This 2004 mahogany model is in fine condition with very light fret wear and a few very minor scuffs and scratches. The sound of the brass tone ring is right up there with higher grade models (shell construction is identical to higher Deering models) and it can stand up to any demand a bluegrass band might ask of it. If you're looking for a professional quality American-made instrument at an "entry-level" price give this one careful consideration. You'll see a few signs where the top level of the lacquer finish has lost adhesion to the lower coats of finish around the heel of the neck, but that minor negative is the only one you'll find and of course has no effect on the function or sound of the banjo. Price includes its original hardshell case which is in excellent shape.
